The Friends of the Baldwin Park Shelter are pleased to announce that Alfred has been rescued!!!

Adopted and Rescued Pets Volume 36
A4661292 Alfred is a gentlemanly one year old black neutered male long-haired Dachshund and Papillon mix puppy who was found in Walnut with his puppies Petunia (A4661293), Rose (A4661294), and Iris (A4661295) on December 17th and brought to the Baldwin Park Shelter. Weighing thirteen pounds, this medium-energy dog has worked at being a stay at home dad. Now that his puppies are old enough to be on their own, he is eager to find people to take care of him. Alfred is an unusually handsome and cooperative dog who will take quickly to training. We think he will be very happy to be in a home with children and other pets. Alfred is an awesome indoor companion for anyone in any living situation.

By Baldwin Park Shelter

The Friends of the Baldwin Park Shelter are pleased to announce that Poopies has been rescued with Gorgeous!!!

Adopted and Rescued Pets Volume 36
A4664326 Poopies is a stellar fifteen year old cream and brown female Miniature Poodle who was forsaken at the Baldwin Park Shelter on December 29th with her companion, Gorgeous (A3703734) because her former owner claimed she could no longer afford to care for her pets. Weighing perhaps three pounds she will walk on leash, but she's far more fun to carry. Good with other dogs, we think this dainty girl will be okay with mature children who can appreciate how small she is. Poopies is bonded with Gorgeous and it would be great if they can be adopted together. Poopies is the perfect pet for an individual or adult family living in an apartment and would be a splendid companion for a senior.

By Friends of Apache Junction Animal Control

These are just some of the shelter animals that the CARE Medical Fund has helped in 2013. As some of you may not be aware, Apache Junction Animal Control does not have a vet on staff. That is why it was so important to establish a medical fund to help dogs and cats that needed nothing more than some basic medical care in order to be adopted. Something as simple as topical ointments for ringworm or antibiotics for eye infections and kennel cough. Lab tests to diagnose Valley Fever or Tick Fever, Heartworm or Mange and provide the medicines needed to bring them back to health. We’ve been able to fund minor surgeries and fund costs for radiographs (xrays) and were able to provide all this information to potential adopters who then are more likely to adopt a dog or cat with special needs. All this, because you cared enough to donate to our cause. And, we’re not done yet! We expect more dogs and cats to flow through the shelter that need our help, so we hope you’ll continue to support us by donating to CARE. We are a 501(c)(3) charity and all donations are tax deductible. Thank you for a very successful 2013 and we hope to continue that success into 2014.

Medical Fund Animals
All these dogs and cats have been helped by donations that our friends have generously given to the CARE Medical Fund. Each one would have most likely not have made it without you. Thank you, everyone for supporting us! …read more

By Friends of Apache Junction Animal Control

Sweetie came the shelter as stray. She was emaciated and had trouble walking. What first appeared to be a possible spinal injury turned out to be a birth defect. Through x-rays, we learned that Sweeties kneecaps were actually on the outer part of where her knee joint should be causing her no pain, but made her walk a bit awkwardly. She tested negative for Valley Fever and any thyroid condition. Despite her condition, she is a happy girl and the vet has stated that her condition shouldn’t stop anyone from adopting her.

By Friends of Apache Junction Animal Control Please keep your animals inside your home this evening. More animals are lost and killed during times that loud noises like thunderstorms or fireworks are taking place. A few suggestions to keep your dog safe: 1) Place your dog or cat in an interior part of your house with a TV or radio on to muffle any outside noises. 2) Crate your dog or cat and/or supply a “den” for him or her to feel safe with lots of bedding. 3) Make sure your pet has their ID tags on or simply write your phone number on their collar.

Other suggestions include using a Thundershirt or make your own therapy wrap during times of stress http://vetmedicine.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1%2FXJ&zTi=1&sdn=vetmedicine&cdn=homegarden&tm=9&gps=101_5_1600_751&f=10&su=p1242.1.130.ip_p284.13.342.ip_p504.6.342.ip_&tt=2&bt=6&bts=7&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crvetcenter.com%2Fttouch.php or in severe cases, see your vet to see if your pet is a candidate for anxiety medications like Xanax.

We hope that you and your pets have a safe and fun New Year’s Eve!
