***AVERAGE RATED SAFER***
Alydor is a 2 year old pit mix stray at the Manhattan shelter waiting for someone to save him. His time is running out and he has only till noon tomorrow when he will be gone forever. Please share and advocate for Alydor tonight that he can find a foster or adopter to rescue him from this fate…
A volunteer writes: There is simply no way to look at this little face and not smile! He reminds me of a little piglet, right down to his (almost) corkscrew tail! His easy personality matches his unique and sweet looks and although he pulls on the leash a bit, all is forgiven as he grins up at me. Alydor wears a nicely groomed coat, his weight is perfect for his size and his friendly personality indicates that he was a cherished companion before joining us as a stray. He ‘goes’ as soon as we are out the door so is likely housetrained, poses for pictures like a pro sitting when asked to, and takes treats with gusto. As other dogs pass he greets them with a friendly wag of his tail and has no interest in playing ball or with a toy. As it was raining he allowed me to put a raincoat on him so seems to be accustomed to being taken care of. Alydor aced his behavior assessment indicating he will be a good fit in just about any home. He’s hoping he won’t have to wait long to find one. Ask to meet him today.

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Bear is a story too often repeated at the NYC ACCs. As usual a Volunteer who knows her says it best : A volunteer writes:
“The moment that Bear stepped out of her kennel she stood up to give me a kiss! I don’t usually kiss on the first date, but Bear is so sweet and irresistible I was thrilled! She’s a compact little girl with a rounded figure surrendered by the only family she has ever known as they are moving where she is not welcome. We’re told that she is housebroken (likely true as she ‘went’ the moment we were out the door), paper trained and crate trained. She knows ‘sit’ (which she showed me), ‘lie down’ and ‘give paw’. She lived with 4 adults, 2 teens and 2 children and gets along with all people and kids. She lived well with other dogs, loves to play and is active. Bear is a delight and it was clear as we walked to the park that she was looking for her people. Off leash in the backyard she loves to chase and pounce on a tennis ball and although she didn’t retrieve, happily walked around with it in her mouth. Friendly and affectionate I got more kisses and lots of tail wags. A meet and greet with your current dog, if you have one, is always recommended. Little Bear is crying for her family, and we hope to replace those cries with little yelps of joy as she goes home with her new people. Compact, spayed, and ready to go!” Bear does not have the luxury of time…please share!

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Trevour is a 4 year old pit mix stray at the Manhattan shelter. He is timid and fearful according to volunteer and person who surrendered him. Someone needs to give Trevour a chance so please share and advocate of him tonight before it is to late…
A volunteer writes: Trevour is a very serious small adult wrapped in a brandy color velvety coat. His soulful chestnut eyes have been robbed of their eyelashes. His body is too thin. Trevour seems to wonder if he should exit his kennel and accept my leash…His long face, part Sharpei may be, follows my treat and this is how we started our walk. Trevour, as expected is very food motivated. He would “eat a cow..” although he takes treats very gently from my hand. He sits for them and comes when called to get more. He also emptied my ‘private stash” when I turned my back but did not mind when I took it away from him. He seems surprised when I put a scarf around his neck and a coat over his skinny back. Trevour does not appear to be used to “niceness” and although he accepts my caresses without flinching, he looks puzzled at me, wondering may be what are those purposeless gestures that might not be harmful but do not fill his stomach. Survival could have been the only thought on Trevour’s mind lately and being a “lazy and beloved ” pet is something he will have to learn all over again…One can get used to good care pretty quickly… Trevour walks quite well in the street, eliminating on the way without marking. He did not appear troubled by other dogs met. Before bringing Trevour back to his den and after one last treat, we sat in a private place. Trevour, …read more

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Kindhearted people like those who read the Urgent threads just can’t figure the cruel disregard that some people feel toward their pets. Eleven-year-old Charlie, for instance, was actually adopted from a bad situation about 2 years ago. So, Charlie settled in, thinking that he could live out his remaining years in the comfort of peace and affection. No such thing – his family tired of him & turned him in as a stray. Now, of course, Charlie should be checked out by a veterinarian, but he appears to be in good health for his age. He wants to experience what it’s like to be a treasured family member for a while before he bids this world adieu. That won’t happen unless someone steps up for Charlie tonight. Perhaps you or someone you know? He’s on the public adoption site tonight. Please join the search for a family for Charlie before his time runs out on the stroke of noon tomorrow.

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Bruno is a handsome, tiny, SIX-MONTH-OLD guy with a good SAFER, and it’s just mind-blowing that the ACC cannot place him without threatening to kill him tomorrow…
A volunteer writes: Bruno is a shiny ebony nugget with slanted copper eyes, rather calm and welcoming in his kennel. He is a babe at 6 months of age and was sadly found as a stray. He looks quite healthy though and trim and might not have been too long in the street. Bruno is leashed without effort. He is eager to go for a walk and be in company. It is quite cold outside and Bruno accepts a coat without complaining. He sits on command and for treats. He pulls a little but looks happy and carefree, his tail fanning the air. He eliminates on the way without marking. Bruno meets other dogs in a very nice way, young, old, males, females and even little ones. He does not play bow but his body is soft and his tail is wagging. Back in the yard, Bruno and i cuddle together on a bench covered with a blanket. He likes to be caressed, massaged and kissed. He is a puppy after all and so in need of love and care. He welcomes other staff coming to say hello. Bruno is a social little chap. Bruno is at the Manhattan Care Center, a cute puppy awaiting your love and guidance to become a wonderful adult and forever best friend.

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Puppy Derby hasn’t even made it to his first birthday bugt he has made it on the euthanasia list for tomorrow. Act fast to bring this lovable little guy home because after noon tomorrow he will her gone. Please share and advocate for Derby tonight before it is to late…
A volunteer writes: All puppy sweetness, sprinkled with a healthy dose of puppy curiosity and playfulness, Derby was happy to be leashed for a walk. He may be housetrained as he took care of business as soon as we were outside, and then showed off nice leash manners as we walked to the park. He’s a gorgeous boy in a lush tan coat, well groomed and taken care of. He ignores other dogs we pass, or greets them with a happy wag of his tail, happy to be with his person enjoying some play time. He snorts when snuggling, so we kept snuggling as I love a dog who snorts! Off leash in the yard he loved chasing a ball, bringing it back from time to time for another toss. I can take the ball right out of his mouth for another throw. He sits when asked to and takes treats gently. Later in the day I passed his kennel and he was laying down froggy style (love that!), enjoying a chew stick. Derby is looking for a home in which there will be plenty of time for play and love, and some positive guidance to usher him into adulthood. He’s well on his way to being a rockstar adult and hopes that his new family will give him the time, patience, and love that all dogs need. Ask to meet Derby today.

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Poor King Kong has been sitting at Manhattan ACC, waiting for his owner to get out of jail and take him home… which never happened, so King Kong will die tomorrow – quite literally for his owner’s crime…
A volunteer writes: Our King Kong may not be the ‘eighth wonder of the world’ but with his classic good looks and super friendly personality, he’s still a pretty spectacular guy. His luminous brown eyes sparkle with puppy-like mischief when he sees I’ve come to take him out but to my surprise King Kong walks like a gentleman, easy to handle and apparently house trained too. When other dogs approach he’s just thrilled, wiggling his butt and hopping about with excitement, seemingly unfazed even when his new buddy turns out to be less than friendly in return. King Kong is quite the athlete and once the tennis ball appears I have his undivided attention as he stays on command for my throw (though sometimes I take too long and he has to tell me off or give me a hug to remind me that the King is waiting!) before bounding after the ball and getting down to the important business of chew chew chewing it into submission. He loves to be cuddled and fussed over, even with a ball in his mouth, and he takes treats nicely as well. We’re told by the family of his former owner that King Kong has lived with other dogs and enjoys the company of children too, but cats and squirrels are very much not on his list of favorite things so his new home should probably be a feline-free zone. Are you looking to embark on the adventure of a lifetime? King Kong is no beast but a good boy with a good heart and …read more

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Joxer is the type of guy that ignorant people will pay four-digit amounts for: a gorgeous, big, muscular Pit. Unfortunately for Joxer, no one wants him right now, not even for the measly adoption fee, and for that, he will die…
A volunteer writes: So stunning he could be a doggie supermodel and so charming and friendly that he inspired a staff member to write ‘Great dog!’ on his intake card, when it comes to making a fabulous first impression young Joxer is a star! He loves other dogs both large and small and when he’s not striding down the street and sniffing out all the best smells, Joxer enjoys giving hugs, receiving massages and leaning waaaay into his human’s side to express his never-ending gratitude. Everyone who meets him is won over by this sweet guy and his winning ways and of course, being amazingly good-looking doesn’t hurt either! With his sleek silver coat, grey spotted slippers and cheek bones even Kate Moss would envy, Joxer truly is a ‘full package’ pet to make any owner proud. He’s a strong walker yet calm and easy to handle in a harness leash (he was wearing one when he arrived) and will sit politely for treats before taking them ever so gently from my hand. An independent and active explorer, a lover of chase (but not fetch) and a snuggle buddy who’s never too busy to share some cuddles, Joxer really is a good dog. He may technically have entered the Care Center as a ‘stray’ but it’s clear from his perfect condition and polite manners that until very recently this magnificent boy was someones well cared for companion. Beloved pet… it’s the role of a lifetime and one he was born to play. Give Joxer his chance at an encore …read more
