By Angels Among Us Pet Rescue

Hi, I’m Alistair! My family moved away & left me outside to fend for myself. I was very sad about that. I didn’t understand why they didn’t take me with them. I thought they loved me but I guess they didn’t love me enough. Then one night, while I was sleeping under a bush, a neighbor’s dog found me. I tried to run but he caught my leg and it hurt A LOT! It bled & bled.

I went up to a human to try and tell him that I needed help and maybe I could live with him. When he picked me up and put me in his car, I was SO happy! I thought I was going to a new home but instead, he took me to a place with a bunch of cages. I think it’s called animal control. It was even scarier than being outside! I tried to tell them that my leg hurt but they didn’t notice.

So it got infected and I got sicker & sicker. They put me on the list to be euthanized and I knew my time was up. But then a nice volunteer said the Angels were coming. And not the angels that take you to Heaven either! The Angels that give you a foster home until you find a forever home. I was very weak so I couldn’t show them how happy I was but I was jumping for joy on the inside. They picked me!!

We had to drive a long way to get there – over four hours. The volunteer said that means I’m really special because a lot of people had to help with the transportation. First I went to a vet. The hooked me up to IVs and gave me lots of shots & stuff. …read more

*** HIGH ENERGY AND LOVING ***
A volunteer writes: “Our beautiful Rivera is named for the ultimate underdog and greatest closer in baseball history, Mariano Rivera, and when it comes to ball skills he certainly lives up to the legacy of his namesake! If dogs had career goals I imagine Rivera’s might be to become a Detective/Pro athlete as nothing gives him more satisfaction than to head out investigating or spend time chasing and running around with his beloved ball. Though he can be a bit shy at first, he’s still eager to get outside and show off his moves; walking nicely on leash, taking care of all his ‘business’ quickly and greeting fellow dogs both large and small with the low-key friendliness that earned him a perfect score on the dog-to-dog portion of his behavior assessment. Sniffing (and tasting!) all the city streets have to offer may be enjoyable but Rivera saves his most passionate enthusiasm for ball time and his favorite play is fetching and holding the ball for a rousing game of keep-away. I chase him and he literally runs circles around me, if I stop and sit down the full-pen circling gradually shrinks until he’s right by my side but the minute I stand up, off he goes again! Rivera is calm yet tireless and just like his namesake he’s proved himself to be the most humble, quiet and focused of sportsmen, a stand-up guy who earns the admiration and respect of everyone he meets. He’s a sociable, friendly boy but because he prefers to keep his stuff (food, toys) to himself, Rivera would do best in a household with experienced parents and no young children. If your family fits the bill and you’re short one gorgeous, talented and dedicated MVP then Rivera is here to …read more

*** WAITING FOR YOU TONIGHT !***
A volunteer writes: “Gorgeous and quiet in his kennel, Gray sits up front, hoping to be noticed but playing it ‘cool’. It’s hard not to notice him as he’s so handsome in his tan coat, his face accented in gray (thus his name), and his piercing, intelligent and loving eyes. He’s a bit shy at first, just happy to walk outside, taking care of his business as soon as we exited the building. We walk and chat for a bit until he knows I’m a friend (that didn’t take long at all), and then we stop on the sidewalk to kiss. Gray received tons of compliments as we walked through the park, he’s that good looking and that good on the leash. His weight is good for his size, his coat clean and groomed, and his coloring so unique that it does make people stop to look. We took some pictures in the park, Gray not minding being tethered, making soft eye contact and enjoying some reward treats. Once he knew I had treats we did some serious bonding, and he climbed up next to me to give me more kisses…Ahhhh….they say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach….I guess Gray is no exception! He can get a little puppy mouthy in play, but that’s exactly what it is, play, and he’ll need a little structure and guidance to help him grow up. Off leash in the backyard he rolls over for a belly rub, and then crawls under the bench where it’s cooler. He’s totally relaxed, doing a little belly crawl to sniff something, poking his head out to see where I am. Gray is an awesome dog and its recommended that he go into a home without young children …read more

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

*** THIRD TIME ON LIST IS NOT GOING TO BE LUCKY !! ***

Take a look through Mike’s pictures, and try not to fall in love. Mike has a gentle softness in his eyes, and peaceful aura, despite his current circumstances. He entered the ACC as a stray on 6/19, and immediately won the hearts of staff and volunteers. Said to be a Bulldog mix, Mike is a big brindle boy and just over 76 pounds. The tight living quarters at the ACC are far from ideal for this handsome boy, but Mike has been waiting patiently, hoping someone will come for him. But time has run out for Mike, and he will be released from his undersized cage, and walked to the euth room, tomorrow at noon, unless and adopter or foster steps up for him tonight. Please help Mike, and share his story, right now.

*** LOOKING FOR A RUNNING PARTNER ?***
A volunteer writes: “Cola reminds me of a fashion model, elegant, long, tall and super thin although healthy looking. There is no doubt about her gender..She is all girl, dressed beautifully in a spotless cow print coat. Cola was left into our care because of the NYCHA ban. Her former owners describe her as a friendly and very energetic female who lived with other dogs. She would prefer dogs her size and gets very excited when she is with children who must be fueling her natural mercurial temperament. Cola would be house trained which we could verify. Cola bolted out of her den as I opened her door. She has a lot of pent up energy and a kennel is definitively not her “cup of tea”. A stay in the yard will do her some good. Cola jumps very high, she is panting and does not settle. She leaps after a tennis ball and catches it each time. She is anxious and the scorching heat does not help. Still, after a good half hour free in a pen, Cola relaxes a bit. She even sits on command and takes treats very nicely from my hand. She comes when I call her and gives me enthusiastic kisses. She welcomes other dogs her size, coming to our gate. Cola is now tired, just like me…She lays down in front of me, all spread like a skinny frog. She is so adorable. I love her smile. She seems happier.. That is our goal for the day. Cola is at the Manhattan Care Center. She is a beautiful girl, friendly, sociable, bubbly and bouncy who needs an active master and most likely as suggested by her former owners, a home without smaller pets. Given that restriction, Cola, …read more

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Poor Bean! This fawn-colored baby doll was loving life and everyone in it until June 24th, when her world came crashing down around her. The very same people who hung the moon for Bean, were the ones who walked her into the ACC and then walked away forever. She is only 10 months old and was so rocked by their betrayal that her intake notes speak of her tucking her tail and being “very scared.” Things are only going go from bad to worse when they drag her into the euth room tomorrow, which is why Bean needs her rescue hero to step up and save her tonight!
