If elegant Aiko is really almost 8-years old as her previous owner be-tells, well then she certainly has aged gracefully. Aiko is a stunning, gray pit bull mix of about 58-pounds and she’s a real keeper. Too bad her original family didn’t value the rich attributes that Aiko possesses. Aiko is the kind of intelligent dog who longs to serve her human. One glance into Aiko’s serious brown eyes reveals the intensity of her devotion. Right now Aiko is seeking her master. Our dream for Aiko would be a home where she’s given a chance to play, probably for the first time in her life. Aiko deserves to kick back, roll over & soak up human belly rubs. The plan at the shelter is to kill Aiko tomorrow and that will add up to a real loss for our world. Aiko was born to be a trusted companion to her family. “He says/She says” and Reeses life is on the line tonight despite scoring beautifully on his temperament evaluation. Reeses previous family says that he’s bitten humans more than once. Reeses was dragged to the Manhattan ACC via the NYPD no less because of one of these purported bite incidents. The dog who arrived at the shelter was perfectly well behaved and allowed himself to be repeatedly touched and manipulated by the staff. We cannot discount these tales of bites; but is it possible that the incidents have been exaggerated? We just don’t know and Reeses will die at noon tomorrow if no one steps forward to assess this situation. You’d think that when a dog’s life is at stake that care would be taken before the dog gets restrained for a lethal injection. Reeses life hangs in the balance and depends on the sense of due justice by the NYC public.

This beautiful dog waits so patiently in her kennel to go out, despite seeming to be housetrained, but get her outside and her excitement to be on a walk come shining through. Despite being very skinny, this new mama takes treats so gently, and walks most peacefully with another dog alongside. Lisa would benefit from learning some manners, much like the rest of us, but a little dedication to getting her some nourishment, exercise, and a bit of training will pay off with an absolutely gorgeous companion!!!

Don’t let his ‘hard’ name fool you, beautiful Brutus is a soft, affectionate and well-mannered delight who enjoys making new doggie friends and couldn’t be more appreciative of human love and attention. The little foot-to-foot dance he performs when I rub his butt is off-the-charts adorable! It’s raining outside but that isn’t going to stop us and once he’s let me dress him in a coat we eagerly head for the street where he proves a strong but responsive walker, seemingly very house trained, coming when called and sitting politely to softly snarfle treats from my hand. During his behavior evaluation Brutus was lively yet friendly and play bowed to both the ‘helper dog’ AND the assessor and though he really wanted to play with a toy, when his new friend reached out to grab it he relinquished his prize with no complaints. Surrendered by his former family because they couldn’t keep up with Brutus’ active lifestyle, we’re told he lived in harmony with a Miniature Pinscher and an older child and knows ‘lie down’ as well as the ‘sit’ he showed me. While he has lived with cats, Brutus’ penchant for chasing them means a feline-free home would be best for our bonnie boy but when it comes to human and canine family members his motto remains ‘the more, the merrier!’ No matter what the weather outside, Brutus and his open-hearted ways are like sunshine for the soul. Delicious truffles are valued the world over for their scarcity and unique taste and our Truffle has his very own one-of-a-kind flavor – big, bold and beautiful! We’re talking a lotta dog and a lotta personality here and while he’s a friendly boy with a loving soul, he’s not meant for the faint of heart. Truffle is looking for an adopter who’s a connoisseur, someone with the experience and love to take this playful diamond-in-the-rough and polish his friendly manners til they shine bright as that gorgeous red coat. Though he does pull on leash initially, a quick switch to a harness and he walks like an enthusiastic pro, using the facilities and sniff sniff sniffing (and occasionally tasting!) everything he can lay his nose on. He sits for treats and takes them nicely from my hand and it’s clear that in addition to keeping him in tip-top physical shape, his former owners did take the time to teach him some manners, just not the whole playbook. Truffle is a bit of a ladies man and he really enjoys spending time with his female counterparts, interacting nicely with them in playgroup and passing them politely in the hall. However he really doesn’t like to share the spotlight with other male dogs and will need a firm hand and additional training to ‘adjust his attitude’ when near other boys. A good-hearted, dog savvy adopter is the key to realizing Truffle’s true potential and I hope this handsome guy meets his perfect match soon.

A volunteer writes: Kahki always shows how happy she is to see someone with a leash……she wiggles, her tail wags, and she sits right up front ready to be leashed for an outing. She’s so happy to be out to explore, pulling on the leash to get from point A to point B as there is simply so much to see and sniff! She lets me put a coat on her as it’s cold, and she’s stealing kisses from me when I lean down . We head to the backyard where she can be free off leash, and she promptly shows me her sit when I offer a treat. She keeps sitting, I keep giving her treats which she takes softly and we’re buddies! Her soft caramel eyes match her coat, and she looks into mine with gentleness. Her forehead gets those adorable wrinkles that I want to smooth away and tell her life will be good. As we play she gets the zoomies and it’s adorable to watch her run around the pen in happiness. Such a good girl! When some energy is spent she happily comes into my lap for some snuggle time and we huddle together to stay warm. A Volunteer Wrote: Diva is what we used to call in grade school, “a total spaz.” We could not mean it in a nicer way since we all adore this girl, but she’s got lots of charming puppy energy that she can’t quite contain, so it’s dance, dance, dance, whoops-she-bonked-into-something…dance dance dance, oh-sorry-didn’t-see-you-there….but the whole routine is done with such incredible enthusiasm and delight its impossible not to be charmed by her. Diva adored the other dogs she got to hang out with in the yard, appears to be housetrained, and is ready to rock and roll in a house that can give her the space she needs to boogie on down with her big bad self. Well this is a fine “how do you do.” It’s not that modest Snapple expected a welcoming parade but geesh, he just arrived at the Brooklyn shelter and already they’re putting him on tomorrow’s Euthanasia List. It’s almost as though they don’t expect anyone to bond with this great dog. Snapple has a tad of comfort at the shelter since he arrived beside his sister ANNIE – A1021378. The kids are in quite a predicament since their owner has been hospitalized leaving no one at home to care for them. Truth be told, Snapple wasn’t living a charmed life. He’s obviously struggled with fleas and some bumps and bruises that indicate he may have lived outdoors. Snapple is a lovely mix of Labrador Retriever and German Shepherd. He’s not especially large at 47-pounds and he’s reached about 8-years old. Snapple deserves another several years of a good life. He’s a most mellow fellow showing no signs of aggression of any kind. Chances are that no one else is going to adopt Snapple. Please consider adding this senior love bug to your home.Imagine the fun of showing Snapple human devotion and kindness. Please hurry.

**ATTENTION** New Hours for NYC AC&C “AT RISK” (TO BE DESTROYED) ListStarting 7/24/13, the NYC AC&C has changed the hours that the “To Be Destroyed” animals will be available for rescue/adoption. The list will be released at 6PM (not 5PM,) but you will have access to their website (to “reserve”) until 12PM (NOON) the following day. Hopefully, the extra hours will give us an opportunity to save more lives. The shelter closes at 8PM but reopens at 8AM. You will be able to reserve animals on the PUBLIC site until 12 NOON. If the animal is rescue only, a rescue will be able to pull, up until 12 NOON. Please make note of the new hours and check back at 6PM for the list.
