***** CAN BE RESERVED ONLINE ****

Gia is a beautiful lady who has been a mama and finds herself very out of her element. I was immediately enamored with her. She has the most adorable, expressive face and was so, so scared. She averted her eyes when I knelt in front of her cage and would take the treats I left at the front only when no one was looking. For two days, if we were looking, it was at a dog quietly curled up in the corner. A staff member managed to take her out and it seems that walk was enough to push her out of her corner and to the front of her cage. She became easy to take in and out and after a couple of walks she was not only at the front her cage, but softly wagging her tail when approached. Until then, our walks had been sort of business-like in nature – a chance for her to relieve herself (she seems housebroken) and see that the outside world was still there. I had pet her only briefly on the back to see how she would respond (she didn’t – aversely or otherwise), but now she was making soft eye contact and softly wagging her tail when I spoke to her. A few rubs under her chin seemed to open the floodgates for Gia’s affection. She propped her paws on me and nuzzled her head under my arm. She is always giving hugs, will climb in my lap, and even gently lick my face. She is a dream on the leash and seems interested and friendly when checking out her neighbors. She didn’t seem to mind the recent snowfall and was very cooperative when it was time to clean salt from her paws. She …read more

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Friday is a young pit mix who needs our help tonight. Please share and advocate for Friday before it is to late….
A volunteer writes: According to the old nursery rhyme, ‘Friday’s child is loving and giving’ and our Friday is certainly into the loving part, eager to make new friends of both the two- and four-legged variety and a big fan of hugs, petting, playtime and anything else that involves messing about with his pals. He may officially be all grown-up but this adorable munchkin looks and acts just like a little puppy, always wanting to be in on the action and if there isn’t enough action, making his own fun with whatever ‘toys’ he can find…his coat, the leash, even my jacket! Friday’s heart is in the right place and while he’ll need some guidance in appropriate play behavior, his eager-to-please, food motivated nature should make training him a fun project the whole family can enjoy. He seems cool with people touching his toys or food and guarding appears to be a non-issue, though naturally he likes to keep his various ‘chewies’ close at paw because you never know when the mood to munch might strike! Strutting confidently on leash (which yes, he prefers to hold himself, thank you), Friday meets other dogs with friendly manners, seems to be very house trained and will sit on command for treats, licking even the tiniest tidbits gently from my hand. I’m not Friday’s only fan and it made me smile to see a burly male staffer laughing with delight as he roughhoused and snuggled with his new bulldoggy buddy in the yard. Guaranteed to bring out your inner child, Friday is hoping a dog-savvy family (older kids only please!) will help bring out his best self in return. He has …read more

***FUN LOVING BEN IS AVAILABLE VIA THE PUBLIC SITE!***
A volunteer writes: “Ben, the two of us need look no more, we both found what we were looking for…” the plaintive voice of a young Michael Jackson rings through my head as I search Ben’s eager eyes, so hungry for food, love and family that he sees a new BFF in everyone he meets. If what you’re looking for is an affectionate, huggable, energetic companion who adores playtime with humans and dogs alike and is pretty darn handsome to boot, then your search ends with Ben! This fun-loving boy arrived with the rest of his ‘pack’ – equally stunning brother Rascal (A1025163), sister Lady (A1025165) and a little kitty companion – after his owners lost their home and were unable to find another to accommodate such a furry full house. Just like in the song, Ben is ‘always running here and there’, ignoring toys and balls in favor of plain old goofing around (play-bowing included!) with his doggie pals or getting into a game of chase with his human friends, those long legs dashing around the pen before coming to rest on my lap as he smothers me with grateful, enthusiastic kisses. He’ll sit briefly for treats and take them quickly but nicely from my hand, seems extremely house trained and though a bit of a leash puller, he listens when I speak and accepts a shortened rope with no argument. Excellent scores on his behavior evaluation mean Ben would be a great fit for any experienced, active family and with his dog- and cat-friendly history, the more four-legged siblings, the merrier! Ask to meet this lovable clown today and hopefully you’ll soon be singing the words Ben’s big ol’ ears have been longing to hear: “There’s something you should …read more

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

The owner of 2 year old Victor and his 4 year old housemate, Queen, is moving someplace neither can go and now both are sitting in separate cages at Brooklyn ACC wondering where their people, their home, and even each other went. In a perfect world, Victor and Queen could move on together to help each other through a transition to a new life. But ACC has put Victor on tomorrow’s euthanasia list so tonight, he has to be the priority. Though both dogs were a bit thin (particularly Queen) when they got there, ACC staff noted that they were both “very sweet” and showing “no sign of aggression” during their intake. Victor’s got some big hurdles to get over—he’s a black lab/pit mix and black dogs are so very often simply overlooked. He likely needs to start eating some decent food to get that beautiful coat of his shining. But Victor’s got so many things going for him==he’s young and sweet and absolutely gorgeous. He’s ready to give his new humans years of loyalty and years of being a beloved member of a household. If you’re ready for a sweet young dog who is over that baby puppy stage but still learn enough to be excited at learning new things, then start working on fostering or adopting Victor. But it has to be tonight—at noon tomorrow, ACC will assume nobody will ever want him and they’ll make Victor gone forever.
