**Eeyore has every right to be worried** A volunteer writes :Eeyore, I wish I would have met you before to tell far and wide what a good and sweet dog you are. You are a bit wary and when I came knocking at your door, but you are so good natured and despite all the flaws we humans have, you dogs are seeing us as gods, source of all things good. We had a sweet time together. You walked by my side, did your business, said hi to a few pooches(I heard you were well mannered in playgroups), enjoyed a few treats for which you sat so politely. Yes, you were a little scared but caresses , kisses and soft words got to you very quickly and soon enough, you were huddling between my legs as we were hiding from the cold in the staircase. I knew you felt much better. Your tail was out and your eyes were peaceful. I made sure you had a thick bed and a rawhide to spend a comfortable night. I wish I was with you tonight .Sweet dreams , my love. We have to hope, to wish and wait. Maybe tomorrow will shine a very bright light on a new life for you.

**** JAY JAY NEEDS YOU TONIGHT *****

Jay Jay is with us as his owners lost their home. He seems to have been well cared for. He wears a well-groomed silky coat, has a good weight, and appears quite healthy. His eyes are still clear and amber in color. This middle-aged gentleman is quite uncomfortable here at the care center as he does not understand this sudden and strange turn in his life. Jay Jay is calm in his kennel and lets me leash him without fuss. He pulls a little on the leash. He is wary, tense, and alert to any changes around him. He relieves himself right away as we enter the yard. He sits on command and takes my treats politely. After some time spent together, as Jay Jay has settled next to me, he lets me pet him all over, althouh never really bonding with me. I did not expect that much from a first encounter with an older dog, a Shepie, who was a family dog and now, living in a kennel. He grumbles a little at some dogs being too pushy. I doubt very much that Jay Jay is being his own self in our hands. JayJay is waiting here at the Manhattan Care Center for his fate to be decided. I hope that soon enough JayJay’s lucky star will shine and bring warmth to his heart.

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

**GENTLE GIANT** People sometimes assume that big dogs are fearless and confidant in every situation, but gentle Cisco shows this assumption to be erroneous. This hundred-pound moosh is nervous and apprehensive at the shelter, but he has tried to push his fears away and put his best foot forward with everyone he’s met. Please be sure to read his SAFER notes because that EXPERIENCE rating doesn’t tell the whole story. It leaves out everything to do with the giant heart of this dog, the desire to live a peaceful, loving life and snuggle with those he loves. Cisco wants the same thing the dog who is curled up at your feet right now, already has: A forever home. Please help Cisco get what he needs by sharing him far and wide, tonight.

**** CAN BE RESERVED ONLINE ****

Leela is so young that she still cries for her family between wags of her tail. We don’t know where her family has gone but they are the poorer for the loss of this lovely dog. Because of her puppy like exuberance, Leela’s recommended for an experienced family, but honestly she’s a dream so long as you appreciate a puppy with pep. Leela is good around other dogs even though she’s a bit on the pushy side. That will amend itself in good time if Leela is given the chance to live. Right now she has an ear infection and kennel cough so she surely isn’t feeling very well. Leela has not been well tended at all as she also bears some skin issues that need to be checked. If ever a dog deserved a chance it’s young Leela. Please share or adopt her.

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Playful Myxy’s owners are moving and couldn’t take her with them. Now she is down to her last night at the shelter and needs our help to find her a loving forever home before it is to late…..
A volunteer writes: Myxy is a joyful dog with a sparkling personality! She dances while on leash, scampers merrily in the snow and happily obliges me by posing for pictures on this cold winter day, ignoring the few dogs that pass by us. Of course, being a lover of treats, a tasty biscuit in my hand helped too! Myxy joined us when her family moved to a place where pets were not welcome, but that hasn’t dampened her enthusiasm for life. According to her family, Myxy is friendly with children and strangers, and gets along with small dogs and cats. While she passed her behavior assessment at the Care Center with flying colors, being an energetic dog, an active home that can provide lots of exercise and mental stimulation would be the best fit for her. Myxy has such a wonderful bubbly energy that I was looking forward to a game of fetch with her in the backyard, but it’ll have to wait for another time as it had started to snow. Then again, hopefully she’ll be adopted by then – sharing new adventures with her new forever family! Please come meet Myxy – she’s such a joy!

** OWNER SICK NOW HE WILL LOSE HIS LIFE **
Life throws some horrible reality sometimes and Indio has been struck with three blows, all completely out of his control. First his beloved owner is sick, Indio is now sitting in a cage in the NYCACC because noone was able to take care of him, and now the so called shelter has listed him to be destroyed tomorrow. What is a poor senior dog to do ? Indio is trying his best, doing what the shelter asks of him, but he does not understand why his familiar safe world is now suddenly gone. Indio is less than a decade years old, he still has some years ahead of him. Indio is neutered and was in good health at intake, taken care of, and mannerly. Please share, advocate, and pledge for this Pittie mix, time is short, he needs to find a foster or adopter by noon tomorrow.

***Delicious Biscuit is available for adoption via the NYC ACC website!***
A volunteer writes: What could be better than a warm, buttery biscuit on a cold winter’s day? How about a warm, buttery, big-eared and big-hearted puppy named Biscuit instead? I know which one I’d be reaching for. She’s right here at our Manhattan Care Center–the most delicious little girl ever! No one is easier to handle or easier to love than Biscuit. She comes with glowing reviews from her former owners. Their favorite things about her are that she’s playful and great with kids and we’re told she even tailors her energy levels to fit the age of her companions; sitting quietly next to babies and running around with older children. She’s described as ‘respectful’, ‘gentle’ and ‘relaxed’ and not only does she get along well with other dogs, she’s friendly toward cats too! Biscuit knows commands for ‘sit’ and ‘come’ (both demonstrated nicely for me) as well as ‘wait’ and ‘shake paw’. She certainly seems to be one of the most well house trained pups I’ve ever met, taking care of ALL her business tout suite once we’re outside. Other dogs are met with perked ears and a happy tail and she’s a great leash walker, always very calm and responsive. I know it sounds like Biscuit is too good to be true but other than an eagerness for gulping her food, there really is no hidden catch here. She’s simply an amazing pet that any dog-savvy family would be proud to call their own. Welcome this tiny treasure into your heart and home today and you could be enjoying a sweet Biscuit treat every single day of the year!

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

Since she was 6 weeks old, 2 year old Lilly has lived in harmony with her family that include 4 children ranging from newborn to 16 years old. Her best doggie friend was the neighbor’s GSD with whom she played in the yard every night. Crate trained housebroken, she’ll let you know when she has to go out but if no one can get there quickly enough, she’ll jump in the bathtub to go. She hates to have her nails trimmed but is fine with getting a bath, and was never bothered if the kids touched her food bowl or her toys. Lilly’s been on grain freed food in an attempt to resolve the skin issues that have plagued her for the last year. Though the family has repeatedly taken her to a low cost vet and gotten meds for her, the skin problems come back and the family can no longer afford her care (They brought in her medical records with her). So, Lilly sure sounds like a winner! Friendly, active, full of life—all she needs is to be seen by a really good vet to get a good diagnosis of what those skin issues are about and a home in which to continue her life. But ACC has other plans for Lilly-they’ve put her on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. Lilly needs to find that one person out there who sees what a great dog she is and who can open their home and their heart to her. If you’re that person, start working on fostering or adopting her. But it has to be now—at noon tomorrow, ACC won’t hesitate to make Lilly gone forever.

***Who could say no to this face???***
A volunteer writes: Surrendered to our care for being “too active”, Stanley’s former owner tells us that he gets excited and playful when he sees other dogs, and while he loves to play with children can sometimes play too hard. I fell in love with Stanley when we met…he was thrilled to be going out showing off great leash manners as we walked to the park, and going potty as soon as we were out the door. His coat is a gorgeous gray with bronze/gold highlights, and as we walked he kept checking up with me to make sure we were OK. We are more than OK Stanley, we’re great! Stanley posed for some pictures, making soft eye contact, took treats super gently after showing me his perfect ‘sit’, and was gentle and easy. Stanley may need more exercise than he was getting as he’s a young dog who likes people and other dogs and wants to interact. If you’re an active person who enjoys long walks, play time followed up with some cuddles, Stanley is the dog you’ll want by your side.
