I promised myself that I would try to write this post without crying, yet as I type, I sit with here with a box full of Kleenex, eyes that have been puffy for hours, and mascara running down to my chin. Why? Because even though we consider each and every animal we rescue to be a blessing, sometimes one dog or cat will land in our lap that changes us forever.
Field Day was one such dog.
Our first introduction to Field Day came almost a year ago. One of our very special original angels, a teacher named Karin, saw photos of this gentle giant who was scheduled to die at a Georgia shelter. It happened to be her students’ field day. When she saw the photos, she gasped, as we did. His bones were covered with raw, angry, crusty flesh. Medical professionals we consulted said his injuries did not appear to be from treatable mange but, instead, looked to be the cause of some sort of intentional burn, perhaps even chemical.
In true Angels fashion, we mobilized immediately to rescue him right before being put to sleep. His human angel, an amazing foster within our program named Peggy, stepped forward willingly and embraced the chance to help him recover. Once we had Field Day safely in our care, we realized that he not only suffered from massive burns, but he was also riddled with cancer. We were gutted.
Doctors gave Field Day merely a few weeks to live, and we pledged to him, with your backing, that those weeks would be his finest. And that he would be comfortable and immersed with love.
That was nearly a year ago.
We say often that you, angels, make the impossible, possible. Nobody expected Field Day to embrace life as …read more

1yo Lady is one of Pinal’s long-timers. Please help her by donating to the Long-Timer fund, sharing her, or better yet, adopting her!
A volunteer shares: LADY – ID#A162565 is a sweet and loving doll. She’s submissive and eager-to-please. Lady really enjoys her treats. With her sweet tooth as motivation plus her amiable nature, Lady is quick to learn and quick to love. She successfully kennels with multiple dogs! These observations are a snap-shot of a shelter dog’s personality. It is the responsibility of individuals and organizations to do their own evaluations.

Hi, my name is Honey, as from the sweet nector collected from bees giving me my beautiful Honey colored eyes. I am an incredibly sweet girl, just as my name would imply.
You probably saw that I am “special needs”. I have been diagnosed with Feline Leukemia. That gives me a very short lifespan but one still deserving of love and a furever home. I am such a happy cat; I love to play (especially with the other F-Leuk cats in my foster home, Batman is my bestest friend) and to snuggle with my human. Some say, I may be the snuggliest kitty ever!!!! I LOVE TO GET PETS, KISSES AND SNUGGLES! I really love being able to sleep with my human and I curl up right next to their head for cuddles! I’m not trying to smother them or anything – I just want to make sure they can hear me purr!
I am a gorgeous calico. I may only have a short time left (even tho I could live for years) so please let us not waste any time – come adopt me today! Feline leukemia is contagious to other cats so I need a home where I am either the only cat or a home with other F-Leuk+ cats. It is NOT contagious to dogs or humans or any other species.
