MAYA – A1036718 – Manhattan – Rescue Only
TO BE DESTROYED 06/22/15
A volunteer writes: Maya is a prettty young girl who seems to have been well cared for by her former owner. She looks healthy, very well nourished and dressed in a lovely fawn coat. Her eyes are intense, focused..She knows what she wants..company, treats and a ball game. She is really good, jumping quite high for roast beef that she takes rather gently from my hand after sitting upon request… She is all excited seeing the tennis ball. Her eyes are sparkling. She leaps for it and never ever fails to catch it…Yes, Maya loves to play but she never guards even her most precious possessions, a rawhide, a toy or a ball…..She is quite a smart girl. She pulls a little on the leash in her excitement to be out of her kennel and meet the world. She does not seem to mind two large dogs roaming in a pen. She even goes and says hello…She has an eye for the pigeons, though. Maya is a sociable dog who comes when called and sits on the bench for bonding. She enjoys caresses and kisses and licks my hand, may be as a thank you for being together…She is with us after a incident involving biting a little dog. Maya should probably be adopted out to a single dog home or one with a large dog she can make friends with. Maya is at the Manhattan Care Center and waiting for her time to shine in your loving and experienced hands.

GOLIATH – A1028108 – Manhattan – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 06/22/15
A volunteer writes: Goliath… I would have rather called him Twix for his well groomed caramel and chocolate coat. Goliath , who is no giant but a medium size elegant youngster is quite good looking. He is a bit tense, lost and unfocused, overwhelmed most likely by his abandonment , his new surroundings, his confinement and the many dogs around him. He is quite ravenous for treats but his greed can be curbed by a sharp off and sit. He is quite obedient. Goliath feels undoubtably better in the street and trots like a little horse, proudly , carefree and happily. He is curious of other dogs met but not in an aggressive way. He does not mind to be pictured and back in the care center, sheltered from the cold weather in the garage, he comes on my lap for hugs and kisses. Goliath is a ten month old boy found as a stray, well cared for until now, petite, well made, a bit lost but friendly. A new owner or family will give this beautiful pup back his livelihood . Come and meet him at the Manhattan Care Center, walk him, play with him, discover him and take him home as your forever best friend. Another volunteer writes: I hadn’t met Goliath when he was with us previously, so the good news/bad news is that I have a chance to meet him now. Compact and handsome in his uniquely colored coat, he was happy to join me for a walk. Going potty as soon as we were out the door confirms that he’s housetrained as his former owner states. We’re also told that he lived with 1 adult and two children ages 1-1/2 and 13 …read more

BRANDY aka BELLA – A1039671 – Brooklyn – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED – 06/22/15
Abandoned by their owner, Ella and Bella did show the marks of being well care for and very socialized. Found in good health when they got to Brooklyn ACC, both girls were friendly and happy to receive the attention of the new humans they met. But time marches on and ACC just assumes that nobody else will want Bella—they see her as another dark brindle dog and are prepared to throw her away just like her owners did. They’ve put Bella on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. Unless someone steps up to foster or adopt Bella by noon tomorrow, they’ll make her gone forever. What a shame for a good all round girl like Bella—she deserves so much better. She dreams of pleasing new humans who will stick with her. Don’t let them take away Bella’s dreams.

SQUEEKS aka TIGER – A1039631 – Manhattan – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED – 06/22/15
A volunteer writes: Hey Tiger — getting radio signals through those ears? Tiger has the best ears ever — pointy, reaching for the sky! His coat is gorgeous, striped and elegant and thus his name, Tiger. Joining us with his housemate, Noodle, when found abandoned in an empty apartment, other than being too thin he’s in great shape. He showed off his sit, took a treat super gently, loved playing fetch and let me take the ball right out of this mouth, and is sweet and friendly. His face radiates intelligence and good will, and you can tell he’s just a nice dog. He jumped up on the bench to sit beside me, stealing a quick kiss before jumping down to gently greet a dog in an adjoining pen. In group, he ignores other dogs and is tolerant of all, even the overly energetic ones. He’s simply stunning both inside and out, and is looking forward to beginning a new life with you, today. We’re rooting for him, so come meet Tiger today!

WASHINGTON – A1040174 – Manhattan – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 06/22/15 **AMAZING AVERAGE RATING** A volunteer writes: Washington came to us with tiny peppy Georgia and gorgeous Hawai. He is a masterpiece of a dog, cared for beautifully by a person who found himself unfortunately unable to keep his pets anymore. Washington is right now a bit under the weather as he suffers from a cold. This is why he looks sad in his pictures. This is not the Washington I met when he first arrived at the care center, strong but manageable, sociable and even coming on the lap. He is majestic and imposing but he is a friendly guy. Do not be fooled by his looks. In playgroup with other pooches, he seeks contact, plays a little, has an eye for the ladies but also simply uses his leash-free time to explore the open pens. He is without doubt, very much house trained, sits on command and comes when called, even if Washington is probably not his name. Washington stands out… a silvery statue, so perfectly made by mother nature and so wonderfully maintained by an owner who cared. Washington is really hoping that his good luck star will shine. Come and meet this handsome boy at Manhattan Care Center and take him home as your forever best friend.

****SENIOR SWEETHEARTS****
Zerro is no stranger to the shelter system. Initially brought in to the SI Center as a stray last year, he was transferred to the Brooklyn Center due to a possible leg injury. He sat there for many weeks and was eventually reclaimed by his owner. Fast forward to June 15th…poor Zerro was found in a Chinese restaurant where he had taken refuge from a bunch of kids stoning him. He was brought in to the Manhattan Center. This is incredibly heartbreaking and perhaps the best thing for Zerro is to find a safe and loving home, perhaps for the first time in his life.
