POPPY SEED – A1037654 – Manhattan – Rescue Only
TO BE DESTROYED 06/21/15
***MULTIPLE TIMES ON LIST!***
A volunteer writes: Do you like your dogs handsome, happy, smart and snuggly? Then say hello to Poppyseed, the playfully perfect pup of your dreams! When he’s not showing off his ball catching and fetching skills, this adorably freckle-faced boy is all about the snuggles and once I sit down on a bench he quickly trots over, wedges his butt firmly between my legs and looks up with pleading eyes as if to say, ‘I can have cuddles now?’ Whether it’s butt rubs, a belly massage, behind-the-ear scratches or a mutual smooch session, Poppyseed just can’t get enough or give enough love and his adoration of people is something beautiful to behold. Sadly, he is less keen on his own kind and though we have no problems passing other dogs in the street or kennel areas, once face to face with a fellow pooch Poppyseed lets out a little growl to let them know he’s not interested in being friends. Oh well, that just means more loving for the rest of us! He waits patiently for a throw of the ball and though he likes to carry it around for a while, Poppyseed never guards his things and I can pick it up from right under his nose with no issues at all. Off-leash he does the most amazing ring-around-the-human zoomies but on leash he’s easy to handle, taking care of all his business tout suite and responding promptly to correction and he’s clearly a very smart young dog. I fell head over heels for Poppyseed after just one date and can only imagine the many happy, snuggly, fun-filled years that lie ahead for his lucky adopters. There’s a small, dark and …read more

SAMSON – A1037909 – Brooklyn – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 06/21/15
It is no wonder Samson is a bit scared and confused. He is just a baby and he has no idea how he wound up in this place, away from the home he knew. Samson arrived as a stray and while we do not know his past we do know that he is adorable, friendly and less than a year old – a puppy really. A shelter cage is no place for this guy and he needs to be in a home where he can feel safe and loved. He already has two strikes against him though. His breed and his color make him easy to overlook in a dark, crowded shelter and he has been bypassed time and again. Now he has been placed on tomorrow’s list and if the shelter has its way he will not even live to see his first birthday. Please help Samson find a home tonight. We are his last hope.

MAJOR – A1038491 – Brooklyn – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 06/21/15
“Major is a Social Group Greeter Dog”—that’s among the many great things the ACC staff have to say about this handsome, great dog! Sitting in a cage at Brooklyn ACC 24 x 7, he waited and waited for his person to fix their legal issues and come back for him. Sadly, no one did and because Major got the inevitable “shelter cold”, ACC has put him on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. Take a look at his pictures and his video—this boy doesn’t just smile, he laughs out loud! Major did fine on his behavioral eval, was healthy when he got there and so wants to get out of that cage to run and play, and be a bff to a new human, to meet new neighborhood ‘buds, and just show everybody what a great dog he is. But unless someone steps up to foster or adopt Major now, at noon tomorrow, ACC will have no qualms whatsoever about euthanizing the handsome boy with the biggest smile you will ever see.

JOJO – A1039263 – Manhattan – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 06/21/15 A volunteer writes: I have a very soft spot for Jojo, a nine month old pup left into our care as his owner passed away. I met him only once and he is already so much on my mind… It is obvious that Jojo was loved, played with and cared for. He is one happy go lucky little guy, carefree and ingineered to have a positive and outgoing look on life. His smile is large, his eyes glittery, his tail always wagging and he makes me feel good just watching him be. He is silly and boisterous, wants to meet people and dogs alike and is so clumsy in his moves. He sometimes seems not to know what to do with himself. He wants to be hugged, kiss his caretaker, mouth a little her hand, get all her attention and love. He is such a babe. He still has big paws and a mushy, sweet and clueless face that is the hallmark of puppyhood. Jojo comes with little comments as his master is “gone” but a family member assured us that he was a good little boy…Jojo comes right away when called, sits on command and plays sooooooo well with the tennis ball. He can roll on his side then on his back for caresses. He seems to like other dogs. He is rowdy in playgroups and enjoys himself very much. Jojo thinks that life is a big playground. That’s his nature and he will always be so, even if he lives to be one hundred years….I love Jojo(who by the way, aced his behavioral evaluation) and I hope that you will too after meeting him at the Manhattan Care Center. Come soon and make Jojo you …read more

COACOA – A1039417 – Staten Island – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 06/21/15 So who’s ready for a mature gentleman Chi with a wee tiney bit of the Chi prince headset? If that’s you, then Coacoa is your boy! Reportedly found wandering in Staten Island this boy is a bit nervous at being brought to a place where they poke and prod you, where they put you in a tiny cage and then just leave you there. Coacoa kept hoping his people would come to save him but sadly nobody ever came. ACC has decided he’s had all the chances they’re willing to give him and put him on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. So tonight, Coacoa is really looking for that special person out there who can bring him home and give him the royal Chi treatment he so deserves. He’s already neutered so he can be ready in a flash! But without someone stepping up to foster or adopt Coacoa, at noon tomorrow, ACC won’t hesitate to end this boy’s life.

ELLY – A1039405 – Manhattan – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 06/21/15 A volunteer writes: Little Miss Elly – such a peanut and what a sweetheart! A tiny brindle girl, happy to come out to go potty and then show off her great leash manners as we walk to the park. When I was a kid my mother would buy some of my clothes a bit too big so I had room to grow into them….I felt that way when I put a bandanna on Elly as she’s so tiny it hung over her! She’s a bit too thin in my opinion, but nevertheless takes treats super gently, and keeps an eye on the treat in my hand when we stop to take some pictures. She wears her serious face as she poses and is the perfect model. Alert and aware she checks out her surroundings, watching people and other dogs pass with a gentle wave of her tail. Making friends with a woman passing by she’s calm and gentle in her ‘how do you do’, happy to make a new friend who wanted to pet her. Elly is gentle, low key and sweet, she ‘goes with the flow’, and is simply happy to spend time with a new friend. She’s looking for a forever friend, and invites you to stop by to meet her today.

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

SOUR PATCH – A1039917 – Manhattan – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 06/2115 **AMAZING AVERAGE RATING** A volunteer writes: Sour Patch is anything but sour, and if a picture speaks a thousand words then the blurred tail in every single photo of this handsome boy tells you all you need to know — he is one happy dude!!! Given to his previous owner by someone who didn’t want him because he wasn’t ‘mean enough’, Sour Patch is a family-friendly pet surrendered because his family is going through some difficulties and no longer has the time to care for him as he deserves. He adores playing with toys, racing around the yard and getting all up in my business when I sit down on a bench and we’re told his usual play style with both adults and children (he has spent time with a four-year-old) is gentle yet exuberant. When Sour Patch sees another dog on the street he wants to play with them too, and during our walk he makes the cutest little whines to let me know just how he feels. A strong leash puller who’ll playfully jump up on his favorite people, Sour Patch is definitely an active, rough’n’tumble kind of dog, but everything he does is done with a whole lot of love and his eagerness for treats ensures you’ll have no trouble motivating him to learn new tricks! Affectionate, playful, confident and independent, Sour Patch loves to get his zoomie on and run free off-leash, but at the end of the day he’s all about lazy times and lap snuggles. He’s used to sleeping in a crate, knows his commands for sit, stay, come, and eat, aced his behavior assessment, and as if all that wasn’t enough, he’s already neutered and ready to walk out …read more

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

HAWAII – A1040173 – Manhattan – Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 06/21/15 **ON PUBLIC LIST** Hawaii is a big, young girl of doggie toddler age. The poor lass was tranquilize darted by the police as you can see from that big wound on her side. Hawaii is very scared at the Manhattan shelter so she’s being very reserved. She’s accustomed to being beside her buddies who also arrived at the shelter with her: GEORGIA – A1040172 and WASHINGTON – A1040174. Sadly the dogs’ owner was arrested and his kids are paying the price – most likely with her life in Hawaii’s case. We don’t want you to think that there’s anything amiss about Hawaii. She behaved nicely but quietly during her sojourn at the shelter. Hawaii is scheduled to die tomorrow; but if by some chance someone decides to give her a second chance, she is recommended for a home with a knowledgeable owner who doesn’t live with young children. That’s the imperative – do you think in a city of millions we might find a caring individual who fits the bill? Hawaii’s life depends on our success.

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

The ACC may have a new name, but that new name is hiding a very dirty secret. Disease is running rampant in the “Animal care (& CONTROL) Centers”. There is a horrible strain of canine influenza invading the shelter as we speak. Our animals are entering the shelter healthy and then dying of “pneumonia” within days. It hits fast and hard. Within a few days, healthy animals are dying in their cages. Yes, DYING in cages while being ignored by medical staff. Rescues are going under, trying to cover the medical bills for animals they pulled. Bills that include 24 hour emergency care, oxygen, tracheal washes, and transfusions.

***STILL WAITING***

Tomorrow is the first day of Summer, and Vanna is hoping that the change of season will bring a change of luck! A volunteer writes: We’re going to presume Miss Vanna was named after Vanna White, long time hostess of Wheel of Fortune. And, we’re going to presume that someone will spin that lucky spin and make Vanna theirs!!… Posing for pictures both in the park and in the backyard, she makes soft eye contact, and sweeps her reward treats gently from my fingers…She’s low key and calm and is gently affectionate, joining me on the bench for a kiss, or two, or three! Petite, pretty and rocking her behavior assessment, Vanna is hoping to find a new person or family to love, and she’s hoping someone will spin that lucky wheel today. Will it be you?” Please share!

By Urgent Part 2 – Urgent Death Row Dogs

***STILL WAITING***

Maybe the change of venue will be just the change Hazel needs to finally put the ACC in her rearview mirror! Hazel was originally brought into the Manhattan ACC in early MARCH as a ‘stray’. Hazel was adopted rather quickly and everyone hoped she had her “happily ever after” – but it was not be. Hazel was returned when those pesky ‘personal problems’ came into play, and then she waited…and waited. When the Staten Island ACC reopened after some flooding in late May, Hazel was given the opportunity at a new venue – now she needs her opportunity at a committed home! Please share!

***STILL WAITING***

Can we possibly find a companion for Nala that DOESN’T dump her at the ACC for “personal problems”??? This lovely lady has a stellar ‘resume’; Nala is housetrained, knows her commands, has lived with other dogs – large and small , and she is gentle with children. What Nala needs now is just one person who knows the meaning of “commitment”! Please share Nala – she has waited long enough!
