Meet Chloe: Once sentenced, now saved — this “wild thing” is ready for home.

Chloe wasn’t always Chloe. She was once known only by a number—terrified, severely matted, and labeled “fractious,” she was scheduled for euthanasia at just two years old. Pain made her untouchable, and fear made her invisible. But thanks to a determined rescue effort by OPCA Shelter Network Alliance, Chloe was given a second chance—and a name.

Once freed from her matted “straitjacket” and pain, Chloe began to reveal her true self: spirited, playful, and full of personality. She has plenty of spunk and an independent streak, balanced by a deep affection for the people she trusts. Chloe is a careful observer who loves her creature comforts—but don’t be fooled by her dainty looks. This girl can go. She’s fast, curious, and has a strong prey drive, so squirrels and rabbits beware!

Chloe plays exuberantly with dogs of all sizes she’s become friends with—she’s confident and animated once she feels safe in their presence, and isn’t shy about asking for attention (or snacks). She thrives on routine, enjoys long walks, and is known for her stealthy kitchen radar—appearing at just the right moment when you crack an egg … or any other tasty morsel.

Her adoption journey, however, was delayed by the unexpected. The COVID-19 pandemic brought a long pause to many things—including Chloe’s chance at adoption. For nearly three years, only out-of-state applications came in—lovely families, but far too distant. And so Chloe stayed with her experienced OPCA foster, growing more confident, social, and joyful with each passing season.

During this time, Chloe also received expert training across various environments. Most recently, she aced her Board and Train program with credentialed trainer and behavior consultant Brittany Rose of All Paws In Dog Training. Chloe proved herself a quick study—engaged, responsive, and eager to participate when offered consistency and care.

Today, Chloe is ready for the final chapter of her story: a home to call her own. She thrives in a calm, structured environment with adults who respect her space and enjoy her sass. Due to her high prey drive and keen instincts, a home without small animals is best. But for the right person, she’s the perfect blend of firecracker and cuddlebug.

Chloe is spayed, fully vetted, and deeply loved. Now she’s looking for someone who will love her best of all.

What Chloe Needs in Her Forever Home

Chloe is looking for more than just a place to live—she’s looking for a life where she can run, play, cuddle, and be truly understood.

Her Ideal Home Includes:

 Space & Freedom: She’s a speedster and needs room to stretch her legs—whether it’s a large, securely fenced property or safe off-leash opportunities.

Active, Engaged Humans: She’s happiest with people who love interacting with their dogs—playing, training, and adventuring together.

Some Playful Dog Friends (but the right match): She enjoys playing in a group or one-on-one time, to have a some some canine fun time and chases but prefers being around dogs that respect her space when she’s done playing.

Patience & Understanding: She needs time to fully trust new people. She thrives in a home where relationships are built at her pace. Chloe is, above all, else a relationship dog. She loves being the happy, charming greeting hostess to your guests, but doesn’t want to be picked up, carried against her will, or forced into conversations. She’ll delight in belly rubs (and shamelessly seek them) but no rough rubs or handling, and allow her to decide when to join or leave the conversation or interaction.

Cuddle Time (but not so much she feels overwhelmed!): Once she trusts you, she wants to be near you. She’s affectionate and wants to share her love with her people. But it’s important to let her set the time and terms and respect when she’s had enough and don’t ignore those signals when she’s beginning to feel pinned like she just lost a wrestling match.

 Not the Right Fit If:

  • You prefer a low-energy dog that has no ideas of her own or has so given up on life that at it dare hope for is two meals and a cot—Chloe is interactive, lively, and always up for an adventure if its with YOU. She’s perfectly capable of being home alone, but she’d rather be home observing the world outside or relaxing in the sun or garden with YOU. And let’s face it, isn’t adopting a dog about companionship, understanding, and respecting each other in ways no one else might possibly understand?
  • You expect instant trust—she needs a home where bonding happens naturally and at her own pace.
  • You don’t have safe space for off-leash play or long line adventures—Chloe thrives when she can truly be a dog and trust you will be right there with her enjoying every moment.
  • You plan to rely on public dog parks—Chloe is best suited for controlled play environments with known dogs.
